Abstract

Solid waste is one of the environmental health problems because it pollutes, source of disease, and breeding places for vectors and rats. One of the primary sources of organic waste is trading activities in the market. The study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of the compost maturation rate using local micro-organisms (MOL) as bio activators obtained from stale rice, pineapple peel, and cassava peel. This research is a quasi-experiment with two repetitions. Each treatment uses 0.5 kg of organic matter from market waste, with three MOL combinations. Variations in MOL composition in each combination (in ml) were 10:90, 20:80, 30:70, 40:60, and 50:50. The data were analyzed by ANOVA and Tukey tests to determine differences in the rate of compost maturation between combinations and differences between individual MOLs. The results showed that the average compost ripening was 18.3 days (15-24.5), the lowest was in the MOL of stale rice and pineapple peel (50:50). The compost maturation rate was significantly different based on the MOL combination (p-value=0.010) and was significantly different from the MOL for stale rice and pineapple peel (p-value=0.009). Research has proven that MOL from household waste can be used as a bio activator in making compost from market waste. The lowest compost maturation rate used MOL of stale rice and pineapple peel, at a ratio of 50:50 Sampah merupakan salah satu masalah kesehatan lingkungan karena mencemari, sumber penyakit, dan tempat perindukan vektor dan tikus.
